There are two thriving Youth Groups that attract 8 – 18 year olds and which meet in the theatre on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during term time. Both groups are currently administered by Alanagh Raikes who has been part of Lewes Theatre Club for over ten years: she joined when her daughter and friends were involved in youth productions.
The Tuesday workshops are led by Pip Henderson. They focus on improvisation and devised pieces, while we also incorporate all other aspects of theatre. In the Spring term 2007 the group will look at the contrasts between comedy and “drama” and the very different techniques employed for each style of performance. They will also continue to work on character development, improvisation, confidence, vocal production, stage presence and stage craft.
The Thursday workshops cater to a younger group, 8 – 11 years, and led by Daisy McKie. Daisy offers the participants the opportunity of learning the various skills needed for performance in the theatre. The sessions include learning about the developing areas of speech, interpretation, mime, singing, dance and working from script and characterisation. All this is done through themed plays, acting out scenes and stories.
