Synopsis

This classic late eighteenth century comedy by Oliver Goldsmith was written as a reaction to the more London absorbed and fashion driven plays of the Post Restoration Period.
Set in the country house of an aging and old fashioned squire with a wife who yearns for London and the latest fashions it explores town and country manners as well as being romantic comedy. Tony the spoiled and wayward son of the house is the cause of the series of misunderstandings and confusions which complicate the plot and interfere with the romantic intentions of the women of the house. The two young dandies who have come a-courting show how they behave when they mistakenly think they are addressing wenches instead of the fashionable young ladies of society they had expected.
Of course it all goes through mayhem before everything is sorted out and love conquers all. The play will be funny, lively and colourful, in period costume and with appropriate settings, sound and lighting.
